Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about British musical group, Soul II Soul.

Soul II Soul are a British musical group that was formed in 1988 in London. The group is best known for their UK chart-topper and US top five hit from 1989 "Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)", and "Keep On Movin'."

The beat of the song "Back to Life (However Do You Want Me)" is based on the song "Paid In Full" by Eric B. & Rakim from 1987. Soul II Soul were very popular in UK clubs, so it was a surprise when this song became a hit in the US, where club music rarely did well. An A Cappella version was the B-side of this single.

When Soul II Soul failed to receive a statuette at the 1989 Brit Awards, fellow soul artist, Neneh Cherry broke her own statuette in two and gave half to Soul II Soul band member, Jazzie B.

During their music career, Soul II Soul won two Grammy Awards, and have been nominated five time for the Brit Awards.
