Kid Rock's first record deal was with Jive Records in 1990, and his first big break was as the opening act on Ice Cube's tour. He has also confessed his love for the music of Elton John, citing "Daniel" and "Bennie and the Jets" as his favorites.
Kid Rock grew up in a middle-class Detroit suburb, so the white-trash image that he portrays is mostly made up. Another amazing fact is that at age 43, Kid Rock became a grandfather, which according to him, helps keep his redneck street cred in good standing.
He is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, can play every single instrument in his backing band, Twisted Brown Trucker, and has overseen his own production on 9 of his 11 studio albums. In a career of more than 20 years, his music has encompassed hip hop, country and rock.
