Sir Elton John is an English singer, composer and pianist. He has worked with lyricist Bernie Taupin as his songwriting partner ever since 1967, and together they have worked together on more than 30 albums to this day.

One of Elton John's known and successful songs is "I'm Still Standing" and this is our interesting fact of the day. With the lyrics by Bernie Taupin, the song "I'm Still Standing" is directed at a former lover, as Elton John sings about how he is still standing strong even without this person.

While the song is often seen as a statement of Elton John's resilience, Bernie Taupin wrote the song with a specific person in mind.

Elton John has over 300 million records in his 50 years music career, which makes him one of the best-selling music artists worldwide. Elton has more than 50 Top 40 hits, including 7 consecutive No. 1 US albums, 58 Billboard Top 40 singles, 27 Top 10, 4 No. 2 and 9 No. 1. Believe it or not, but for 31 consecutive years from 1970 to 2000, Elton John had at least one song in the Billboard Hot 100.

Elton John has won many awards, among them 5 Grammy Awards, 5 Brit Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Tony Award, a Disney Legends award, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked Elton at the No. 49 spot on its list of 100 influential musicians of the rock and roll era.

In 1994, Elton John was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is also part of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and is a fellow of the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors.

The song "Sacrifice" by Elton John is about how hard it is to stay faithful and devoted in a marriage, challenging the worn-down mantra that a successful union requires "sacrifice." Elton John sings in the song that it's just "two hearts living in two separate worlds."

The song "Sacrifice" was released as a single in 1989, but stalled at No.55 in the UK. Six months later, the song was revived in the UK by DJ Steve Wright, who began replaying it on his BBC radio one afternoon show.

By mid-summer 1990, the single topped the UK chart. The song "Sacrifice" was Elton John's first solo UK No.1.
