Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American rock band, Bon Jovi.

Enjoy!

Bon Jovi is an American rock band that was formed in 1983 in Sayreville, New Jersey. The band consists of Jon Bon Jovi (lead singer), David Bryan (piano and keyboards), Tico Torres (drums), Phil X (guitar) and Hugh McDonald (bass).

In 1994, bass player, Alec John Such, was dismissed from the band and in 2013, longtime guitarist and co-songwriter Richie Sambora also left the band.

Bon Jovi has released so far 13 studio albums, 6 compilations and 3 live albums. They have sold over 100 million records all over the world, which makes the band one of the best-selling American rock bands of all-time. On top of that, Bon Jovi performed more than 2,700 concerts in more than 50 countries for an audience of more than 34 million fans.

But, before they became so big and so famous, Bon Jovi went to Mercury (PolyGram), Atlantic Records and several other record companies in order to sign a deal, but all of these companies turned him down, which we're pretty sure regret it to this very day.

Also, did you know that their song "You Give Love a Bad Name" almost wasn't theirs? It seems that Bon Jovi nearly gave the song to the band Loverboy, but then decided to keep it theirs, a song which turned out to be very successful and became a big hit.

In 2004, Bon Jovi was honored with the Award of Merit at the American Music Awards and in 2006, they were inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame. In 2009, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora were inducted into Songwriters Hall of Fame as songwriters and collaborators.

On December 13, 2017, it was announced that Bon Jovi will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. The band won the fan ballot with more than 1.1 million votes.

The band has a unique business relationship, as singer Jon Bon Jovi is the only member signed to the record label, and the other members are considered his employees.

This has worked out very well so far, as Jon Bon Jovi is the one who makes the business decisions.

The song "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi was written by Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Desmond Child.

The song "Livin' on a Prayer" tells the story of Tommy and Gina, two kids working to make it on their own, despite constant hardships.

The song struck a chord with America's youth, especially the ones from New Jersey. The characters in the song relate to the working class fans Bon Jovi played to. "Tommy" works on the docks, while "Gina" works in a diner.

The song "Bed of Roses" by Bon Jovi is a personal song that Jon Bon Jovi feels exposes a lot of the problems he was experiencing at the time.

Jon Bon Jovi started writing the song in a hotel room in Los Angeles, and he had the hotel bring a piano that they used for weddings to his room.

He first verse in the song reflects what Jon was feeling when he was trying to write the song. Jon was badly hung over from the night before, but had the piano in his hotel room, and so, was determined to write something, which was this beautiful song.
