Willie Nelson is an American singer, songwriter, musician, poet, author, actor and activist. He is one of the most recognized artists in country music, thanks to his successful albums Red Headed Stranger from 1975 and Stardust from 1978.

Here are 3 interesting facts you may not know about Willie Nelson:

1. Willie Nelson and his sister Bobbie were raised by their paternal grandparents, who had a great influence on the two in developing their love for music. Their grandparents were the ones who taught them how to play guitar and piano, with the help of mail order music lessons.

2. Nelson wrote his first poem in church when he was 5 years old, and recited it for his debut public performance. He began playing guitar (a  Sears Stella) a year later, and shortly thereafter began putting melodies together with his poems.

3. Nelson has been playing the same guitar (Martin Classical N-21) since 1969. He calls the guitar 'Trigger' after the horse of Roy Rogers.

Aside from his successful music career, Willie Nelson has also acted in more than 30 films, co-authored several books, and has been involved in activism for the use of biofuels and the legalization of marijuana.
