Whitney Houston was an American singer and actress. According to the Guinness World Records, Houtston was cited as the most awarded female artist of all time and remains one of the best-selling music artists of all time. 

During her music career, Whitney Houston released 7 studio albums and 2 soundtrack albums, that were certified diamond, multi-platinum, platinum, or gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

She began singing in church as a child and was a background vocalist while studying in high school. With the guidance of Arista Records chairman Clive Davis, Houston signed to the label at the age of 19, with both of her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston released in 1985 and Whitney  released in 1987, topping the Billboard 200 in the US. The two albums also became two of the world's best-selling albums of all time.

Here are a few interesting facts about Whitney Houston:

1. Before Whitney started her singing and acting career, she was a teen model. She was one of the first African-Americans to adorn the cover of Seventeen magazine.

2. In 2001, Whitney signed the biggest contract in music history: An 8-album deal for $100 million.

3. In 1984, Whitney sang on the soap opera As The World Turns. She sang her hit "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do" and "If You Say My Eyes Are Beautiful" with Jermaine Jackson on the popular soap opera. Whitney was also asked to take the role of Sondra Huxtable on The Cosby Show, but decided to turn the role down in order to pursue her singing career.

4. Whitney became the only artist to have 7 consecutive No.1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Overall during her music career, Whitney Houston has won 6 Grammy Awards and sold 200 million records all over the world. On February 11, 2012, Houston was found dead in the Beverly HiltonBeverly Hills, California. Houston had accidentally drowned in the bathtub, due to heart disease and cocaine serving as contributing factors to her death.
