Whitesnake are an English hard rock band, originally from Middlesbrough, Cleveland, England, that was formed in 1978 by David Coverdale, after he left his previous band, Deep Purple.

The early material of Whitesnake, has been compared to the blues rock of Deep Purple, but with time, the band slowly began moving toward a more commercially accessible rock style.

Whitesnake's 1987 self-titled album was their most commercially successful all over the world. It containes two major US hits, "Is This Love" and "Here I Go Again". This album went 8 times platinum in the US.

Our interesting fact of the day, talks about Whitesnake's song "Here I Go Again", that was written by David Coverdale. The song was written in Portugal, and while it is typically thought of as an inspiring song about facing your challenges head-on, it is really a song about heartbreak and the loneliness the comes with it.

The song "Here I Go Again" basically documents the breakdown of David Coverdale's first marriage to Julia. The two got married in 1974.

The band is also ranked on the 85th spot of the greatest hard rock bands of all time list, done by VH1.

The song "Is This Love?" by Whitesnake was written by frontman David Coverdale and guitarist John Sykes.

The song is missing the typical swagger of the band, and instead, finds Coverdale waiting by the phone for his girlfriend to call.

Whitesnake was the name of several of Coverdale's solo projects after he left the band Deep Purple. This version of Whitesnake was breaking up when the single "Is This Love?" was released, so Coverdale had to put together another band in order to promote this song.
