Today: November 21.

 

1960: Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs reached the No.1 spot on the US singles chart with 'Stay'. It was the shortest ever US No.1 single at 1 minute 37 seconds. It also reached No.14 on the UK chart in 1961.

 

1960: The Beatles played at the Kaiserkeller Club in Hamburg, Germany, but without George Harrison. The reason for his absence was underage at the time (he was 17 years old) and not legally allowed to remain in a nightclub after midnight. Therefore he had been deported on this day and did not play with The Beatles.

1970: The Partridge Family began a three week run at the No.1 spot on the US singles chart with 'I Think I Love You'. The song was featured in the first episode of the Partridge Family TV series, made by the same company that made The Monkees.

 

1980: Don Henley was arrested after a naked 16-year old girl was found at his home in Los Angeles suffering from a drug over-dose. Henley received a $2,000 fine with 2 years probation.

1981: Olivia Newton John started a 10 week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'Physical', her fourth US No.1 went on to sell over 2 million copies. It also reached the No.7 spot in the UK chart.

1987: Billy Idol replaced Tiffany at the No.1 spot at the singles chart with his version of Tommy James 'Mony Mony'. Tiffany had been at the No.1 spot with another Tommy James song 'I Think We're Alone Now.'

1988: Jimmy Page, guitarist of Led Zeppelin, set out on his first ever-solo tour at The Hummingbird, Birmingham. He appeared with John Miles and the son of Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham, Jason Bonham.

 

1991: Aerosmith made a guest appearance in the Simpsons TV animated comedy. Other bands and musicians who have appeared on the show include: Metallica, U2, R.E.M., Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Who, Sonic Youth, The Moody Blues, The B-52's, Phish, Blink-182, and The White Stripes.
