1956: American actor and singer, Pat Boone, topped the UK singles chart with the song 'I'll Be Home.' He scored more than 30 UK Top 40 hit hits during the 50's and early 60's and was the second biggest charting artist behind only one Elvis Presley.

1964: On their first world tour, The Beatles took a flight from Hong Kong to Australia and made an unscheduled fuel stop in Darwin. There, more than 400 fans greeted them. The Beatles then continued on to Sydney, where they arrived in the middle of a heavy downpour. They were required to appear in an open-top truck in the pouring rain to wave at the thousands of fans that greeted them at the airport.

1966: The first recording sessions of The Monkees took place. The sessions featured the members of the Wrecking Crew, a group of studio musicians in Los Angeles. However, they proved to be unsuccessful.

1972: Exile On Main Street, the double album by The Rolling Stones topped the UK chart. It was their seventh UK No.1 album. In 2010, the re-released album entered the UK chart at No.1 again, almost 38 years to the week after it first occupied the top of the chart. The Rolling Stones are the first act that ever had a studio album return returning to the No.1 spot after it was first released.

1978: Olivia Newton John and John Travolta topped the US singles chart with the song 'You're The One That I Want'. It topped the UK chart as well.

1989: Jason Donovan topped the UK singles chart with his version to the song 'Sealed With A Kiss' by Brian Hyland's hit from 1962. Jason Donovan became the first Australian act that entered the UK charts at the top.

2001: Radiohead topped the UK album chart with 'Amnesiac'. It was their fifth studio album which debuted at the No.2 spot on the US Billboard 200 and produced three singles which are: 'I Might Be Wrong', 'Pyramid Song' and 'Knives Out'.

2004: US singer and songwriter Ray Charles died at the age of 73. At the age of 6 years old, Ray Charles went blind due to Glaucoma. Charles scored the 1962 UK & US No.1 single 'I Can't Stop Loving You' as well as more than 30 other US Top 40 hits and the 2005 US No.1 album 'Genius Loves Company.' Charles also featured in the movie The Blues Brothers from 1980 and won 17 Grammy Awards.

 

2007: Rihanna topped the UK album chart with Good Girl Gone Bad, her third album which featured the single ‘Umbrella’. The album went to spend 10 consecutive weeks at the top of the UK chart, which made it the longest running No.1 single since ‘Love Is All Around' by Wet Wet Wet.
