Today: February 12.

 

1961: 'Shop Around' by The Miracles' became the first single of Motown Records to sell million copies. It was also the label's first No.1 hit on Billboard's R&B singles chart. In the 10 years that followed, The Miracles sold 6 more million sellers.

 

1967: 15 police officers raided Redlands the West Sussex, home of Keith Richards from The Rolling Stone. It happened during a weekend party. The police had a warrant that was issued under the dangerous drugs act took away various substances for forensic tests. George and Pattie Harrison had been at the house as well, but it was said that the police decided to wait before the two left before they raided the house, so they won't bust the holder of an MBE.

1972: Al Green topped the US singles chart with 'Let's Stay Together', his only US No.1. Rolling Stone magazine ranked the song as the 60th greatest song of all time on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Tina Turner also had a hit with this song in 1984.

1977: The Police recorded 'Fall Out', their first single, at Pathway Studios, London, England. It cost £150 ($255).

1994: Celine Dion started a four week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'The Power Of Love', her first US No.1, and also a No.4 hit in the UK.

1995: Van Halen topped the US chart with 'Balance', their tenth studio album which sold over 3 million copies in the US.

1997: David Bowie received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

 

2015: Steve Strange, the lead singer of 1980s pop band, Visage, died at the age of 55 after suffering a heart attack in hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. His band, Visage, formed in 1979 and their breakthrough single, 'Fade To Grey', peaked at the No.8 spot in the UK in 1981.
