1967: Otis Redding got into the studio in order to record '(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay'. The song eventually went to become his biggest hit. However, he didn't see its release, as he was killed 3 days later in a plane crash. Otis Redding wrote the first verse of the song, under the abbreviated title 'Dock of the Bay', on a houseboat at Waldo Point in Sausalito, California a short time after his appearance at The Monterey pop festival.
