Today: April 11.

 

1956: While he travelling from Amarillo to Nashville, the plane that Elvis Presley was flying on developed engine trouble and had to make an emergency landing. This incident created a fear of flying for Elvis Presley.

 

1964: The Beatles made chart history when 14 of their songs featured on the Billboard Hot 100. The songs ranged from 'Can't Buy Me Love' at the top of the chart to 'Love Me Do' at the No. 81 spot.

1970: Peter Green decided to quit Fleetwood Mac while the band was on tour in Germany. In order to avoid breach of contract, Green agreed to finish the current tour with the band.

1970: The Beatles started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'Let It Be'. The song became their 19th US No.1 in 6 years. It also reached the No.2 spot in the UK.

 

1977: Alice Cooper performed in front of an audience of 40,000 people in Sydney, Australia, which was the largest crowd that attended a rock concert in the history of Australia. After the concert, Cooper was placed under house arrest at his hotel until he posted a bond for $59,632. It was the amount that a promoter claimed he had paid to Cooper for a 1975 Australia tour, which Cooper never made. The two eventually settled when it was found that the promoter did not fulfill his own part of the agreement as well.

1994: Oasis released 'Supersonic', their first single which reached the No.31 spot on the UK charts. However, over time it has amassed sales of over 215,000, which made it their 13th biggest selling single ever in the UK. The song was also the band's first single to enter the chart in the US, where it reached the No. 11 spot on the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

 

2006: June Pointer of The Pointer Sisters died of cancer at the age of 52. She was the youngest of the four sisters and went from being a teenage Gospel singer all the way to a successful singer in the band, with hits such as: I'm So Excited', 'Fire', 'Slow Hand' and more.
