1956 – Singer Buddy Holly signed a recording contract with Decca Records and decided to leave the "e" out of his last name which was actually Holley and not as you know it Holly.

1964 – It was the first full day in New York for the Beatles, and they went for a photo walk around central park with George Harrison being absent because of sore throat. They were followed by more than 400 girl fans and so extra police force was called to control them.

 

 

1965 – The Supremes released "Stop! In the Name of Love" which became a hit single that reached number 1 on U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, in Germany, on U.S. Cash Box Pop Singles chart and number 2 on U.S. Billboard Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart.

1967 – Peter and Gordon who were a British pop duo split up. They achieved international success and fame in 1964 with their first single and #1 hit "A World without Love."

1969 – George Harrison's tonsils were removed at London's University College Hospital and were quickly destroyed so that they could not be sold.

1972 – The Beatles' official fan club disbanded.

1973 – Max Yasgur who was the owner of the dairy farm in Bethel, New York where the Woodstock Music and Art Fair was held died of a heart attack and he was 53 years old only.

1975 – "Blood on the Tracks" by Bob Dylan went to #1 on the U.S. chart. It was Dylan's 15th studio album and his second U.S. #1 album. The album is one of Dylan's best-selling albums and earned a double platinum U.S. certification.

1980David Bowie and his wife Angie got divorced after nearly 10 years of marriage. It happened in London and David got custody of Zowie (known today as Joe), their 9-year old son. Angie on the other hand received a $51,000 settlement.

1981 – R.E.M. made their first ever recording sessions at Bombay Studios Smyrna, Georgia. The tracks were "Radio Free Europe", "Gardening at Night" and "(Don't go back to) Rockville."

1988 – The Who reunited for their 25th anniversary, it happened at a London awards ceremony, but without Keith Moon.

1990 – American rock and roll singer and songwriter, Del Shannon died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after committing suicide at his home in Santa Clarita. He suffered from depression and was taking Prozac, his ashes were scattered.

1992 – English band, Right Said Fred started a 3-week run at #1 on the U.S. Singles chart with their hit single "I'm Too Sexy", which also got to #2 in the UK.

 

1994Oasis were forced to cancel their first foreign tour after they were deported from Holland. It turns out band members were involved in a drunken brawl on a cross-channel ferry which resulted in members of the band to be arrested and locked in the brig of the ferry.

1997 – LL Cool J went to #1 on the UK Singles Chart with his smash hit "Ain't Nobody." This is of-course a new version to the original song by Chaka Kahn from 1983.

2000 – An announcement was out that Stan "the Man" Lee would create a comic book that will feature the Backstreet Boys.

2001 – Eminem made his live UK concert debut, he appeared at The Manchester Arena.

2005 – Drummer of The Doobie Brothers, Keith Knudson died of pneumonia and he was 56 years old.

2005 – Australian singer Kylie Minogue was voted "the world's sexiest woman in her 30's" by Good Housekeeping which is a British magazine. Sade came in #4 in the over 40's and Madonna came in #7.

2009 – Singer Chris Brown was questioned by the Los Angeles police over an assault complaint. Police claim that Brown had argued with an unidentified woman while sitting in a car. He was later on released on $50,000 bail.

2013 – Charles Palmer, LA Superior Court judge threw out a claim by Guns N' Roses singer, Axl Rose of fraud and misrepresentation against Guitar Hero III. Axl Rose claimed that his deal with the company to license the song "Welcome to the Jungle" for use in the game itself included a promise from the company (Activision) that there will be no images of former Guns N' Roses band member, Slash present and used in the game.
