The Knack was an American rock band that was formed in Los Angeles in 1978 became famous with their first single, "My Sharona", in 1979, a No.1 hit worldwide.

The song "My Sharona" was written by Doug Fieger (lead singer) about a girl he fancied. At the time, Fieger was in a long-term relationship when he walked into the clothing store where a high school student named Sharona Alperin was working.

Although Sharona had a boyfriend, Doug fell in love with her and professed his love for her. He then broke up with his girlfriend and started inviting Sharona to the concerts of the band, where she came to with her boyfriend.

It got even weirder when Doug started writing songs about Sharona. About a year after they met, the two started dating and the couple stayed together for 4 years and were even engaged at one point. When the rock n' roll life-style and alcoholism started effecting Doug, it was too much for Sharona and they broke up.

After things got better between them, they became friends and Sharona was even with Doug Fieger during the last week of his life. In 2010, he died of cancer.

As for Sharona, she became a high-end real estate agent in California, specializing in celebrity clientele.
