The Human League are an English synth-pop band that was formed in 1977 in Sheffield. After the band signed to Virgin Records in 1979, they released two albums and a hit singles before achieving widespread commercial success with their third album Dare! in 1981.

One of the band's most known and successful songs (and from the Dare! album) is "Don't You Want Me", which topped both the US and UK charts. The song is about a guy who meets a cocktail waitress and turns her into a star, before their love goes bad.

"Don't You Want Me" was inspired by an article in a woman's magazine, and lead singer, Phil Oakey, said that this song is not a love song, but a song about power politics between two people.

Since 1978, the band has released 9 studio albums, 4 EPs, 30 singles and a few compilation albums. The Human League have had 5 albums and 8 singles in the Top 10 of the UK chart, and have sold over 20 million records all over the world.
