Stone Temple Pilots (also known as STP) is an American rock band that was formed in San DiegoCalifornia. The band originally consisted of Scott Weiland (vocals), Dean DeLeo (guitar), his brother Robert DeLeo (bass, backing vocals), and Eric Kretz (drums).

Stone Temple Pilots rose to fame as part of the grunge movement of the early 1990s, yet further releases from the band expressed a variety of influences, among them classic rock, psychedelic rock, and bossa nova.

One of the band's most famous and successful songs is "Plush", which has an interesting story to it. The lyrics to the song were in part inspired by an unfortunate story in Stone Temple Pilots' hometown of San Diego, California.

The story is about a missing young woman who was later discovered dead by local law enforcement and you can hear about it in the lyrics: "And i feel, when the dogs begin to smell her..."

Scott Weiland said that he and Eric Kretz wrote the lyrics to the song in a hot tub after they first heard the story. Weiland has described the song as a metaphor for a lost obsessive relationship.

Stome Temple Pilots are still running and kicking hard, performing worldwide, but without Scott Weiland. Unfortunately, Weiland died on December 3, 2015 on his tour bus in Bloomington, Minnesota, while being on tour with band Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts. He died due to drug overdose.
