Stereo MC's are a British hip hop/electronic dance group which formed in 1985 in ClaphamLondon.

Vocalist Rob Birch and DJ and producer Nick Hallam founded their Gee Street recording studio and record lable with money that they were given to leave their London flat, and, dispensing with using a backing band, traveled to early shows and gigs on public transport.

As Birch & Hallam, the two recorded two synth-pop singles, and when Gee Street attracted the attention of 4th & Broadway, they recorded the debut album of Stereo MC's in 1989, 33-45-78.

The mainstream breakthrough of Stereo MC's came in 1992 with the release of their album Connected, which reached the No.2 spot on the UK albums chart, and also won Brit Awards for best album and best group.
