Run-DMC was an American hip hop group that was formed in Hollis, Queens, New York in 1983, and consisted of Darryl McDaniels, Joseph Simmons, and Jason Mizell. They are widely acknowledged as one of the most influential groups and acts in the history of hip hop culture and one of the most famous hip hop acts of the 1980s.
Run-DMC were the first rap group that got to be on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, the first rap act with Gold, Platinum and Multi-Platinum albums, the first rap act that appeared on MTV, and the first rap act that signed a major endorsement deal, with Adidas.
In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked Run-DMC on No.48 in their list of the greatest musical artists of all time. In 2007, MTV named them "The Greatest Hip Hop Group of All Time" and VH1 named them "The Greatest Hip Hop Artist of All Time." In 2009, Run-DMC became the second hip hop group that was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in 2016, they received the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
