Rihanna (real name: Robyn Rihanna Fenty) is a Barbadian singer, songwriter, actress and a businesswoman.
Rihanna is from Bridgetown, Barbados, and was discovered when she was 16 years old, by record producer Evan Rogers. He saw Rihanna when he was on vacation in Barbados and brought her to the United States, where he helped her put a demo together.
This demo eventually got the attention of Def Jam Records as well as their president at the time, who happend to be Jay Z. He then signed Rihanna to a deal the very night she auditioned.
Rihanna started to gain popularity and rose to fame in 2005, with the release of her debut studio album Music of the Sun as well as her next album, A Girl like Me in 2006. Her second album charted on the top 10 of the US Billboard 200 and produced successful singles like: "SOS", "Pon de Replay" and "Unfaithful".
Rihanna is recognized as a pop icon, and many of her songs rank among the world's best-selling singles of all time, including the singles "Disturbia", "Umbrella", "Take a Bow" and others.
Rihanna is also the youngest solo artist that earned 14 No.1 singles and has a total of 31 Top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100. Rihanna also has more than 30 Top 10s in the United Kingdom and Australia, which makes her the only artist in the 21st century that achieved such an accomplishment.
Rihanna has won many awards, among them are 9 Grammy Awards, 13 American Music Awards and 12 Billboard Music Awards. She also holds no less than 6 Guinness World Records. On top of that, Rihanna was awarded with the inaugural American Music Award for Icon in 2013 and also the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 2016.
Rihanna is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and to this day has sold 280 million records all over the world.
