Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, Oasis.

Enjoy!

Oasis were an English rock band that were formed in 1991 in Manchester. They consisted of Noel Gallagher (vocals, guitar), Liam Gallagher (vocals, tambourine), Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs (guitar), Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan (bass), and Tony McCarroll (drums, percussion).

Oasis sang in Mancunian accents and had references to British culture in their songs and lyrics. The band was also influenced by British guitar bands from the past.

They scored eight UK No.1 singles as well as eight UK No.1 albums. Oasis also won seventeen NME Awards, six Brit Awards, nine Q Awards and four MTV Europe Music Awards.

As of 2009, Oasis have sold more than 70 million records all over the world, and are listed in the Guinness World Records book as of 2010 for "Longest Top 10 UK Chart Run by a Group" after scoring 22 top 10 hits in the UK.

Oasis also holds the Guinness World Record for being the most successful act in the UK between 1995-2005, spending 765 weeks in the top 75 singles chart and albums chart.

Now, with all this said, our interesting fact of the day may angr some readers, especially if you're based in the US (or a fan of The Backstreet Boys), but remember that we're just the messenger here, we didn't say it. So, here goes...

As if you've already read and understood, Oasis are very popular in England, yet they never had much success in the US. According to Noel Gallagher, the reason for this, is because Americans have "very bad taste" in music. As an example to this words, Noel cites The Backstreet Boys.

The song "Stop Cryin' Your Heart Out" by Oasis is about memories, and how if you forget them, they will come back right when you need them.

The song was written by Noel Gallagher, but it is his brother, Liam, who sings lead vocals.

Many English soccer fans found comfort in this song, as their national soccer team crashed out of the 2002 World Cup to Brazil.
