Meat Loaf (real name: Michael Lee Aday) is an American singer and actor, who is known for his powerful wide-ranging operatic voice and theatrical live shows.

Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday, but he often makes up stories about how he got his moniker. The likely answer is that the name Meat Loaf was given to him by his high school football coach, although he has also claimed that the name came from his father, who said that he looked like meat when he was an infant. Meat Loaf is in fact a vegetarian, as he had to change his diet for health reasons back in the '80s.

Meat Loaf's trilogy albums Bat Out of Hell, Bat Out of Hell II: Back into Hell, and Bat Out of Hell III: The Monster Is Loose has sold over 50 million albums all over the world. More than 40 years after the release of the album, Bat Out of Hell still sells approximately 200,000 copies per year and stayed on the charts for over 9 years, which makes it one of the best selling albums in the history of music.

Meat Loaf ranks 96th on VH1's list of 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock, and appeared in more than 50 movies and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona.

Meat Loaf is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with sales of over 80 million records all over the world.
