Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American heavy metal band, Mastodon.

Mastodon is an American heavy metal band that was formed in the year 2000 in Atlanta, Georgia. The band is composed of Troy Sanders (bass/vocals), Bill Kelliher (guitar), Brent Hinds (guitar/vocals) and Brann Dailor (drums/vocals).

Here are a few interesting facts about Mastodon:

1. Every Mastodon album has a concept and it's usually Brann Dailor that comes up with the ideas for stories. Brann Dailor is also a huge fan of Genesis and Peter Gabriel, and some of his ideas come from his love to those acts.

2. The band members met at a High On Fire show in Atlanta, Georgia.

3. Brent Hinds, guitarist of the band, absolutely loves Soundgarden, but was unimpressed by singer Chris Cornell. Hinds said that he could listen to Soundgarden all day long, but also said that Cornell was a "douche bag" for not talking to him or shaking his hand, when he was just trying to say hello.

So far during their music career, Mastodon has released 7 studio albums, with the band's last album, Emperor of Sand being nominated for the Grammy Award. The album was nominated for Best Rock Album.
