Macy Gray (real name: Natalie Renée McIntyre) is an American musician, soul and R&B singer and songwriter, who is best known for her distinctive raspy voice, and a singing style that is influenced very much by Billie Holiday.

Macy Gray struggled for years before she became a successful solo artist. In the mid-'90s, she got a deal with Atlantic Records as lead singer for a rock band. They even recorded an album, but it was never released.

After Gray started her family and took a job as a secretary, she got another chance when a music publisher heard some of her old demo records and helped her get a deal with Epic Records. Macy Gray was 32 years old when her debut album, On How Life Is was released.

Macy Gray is also an actress and has appeared in several films like Training Day, Scary Movie 3, The Paperboy, Spider-Man and others. She was also nominated five times for the Grammy Award, winning once in 2000 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance with her song "I Try."
