Kim Carnes is an American singer and songwriter. She was born and raised in Los AngelesCalifornia and began her career as a songwriter during the 1960s.

She used to write for other artists while performing in local clubs and working as a session background singer with the famed Waters sisters. In 1972, Kim Carnes signed her first publishing deal with Jimmy Bowen and released her debut album, Rest on Me.

One of her most known and successful songs is "Bette Davis Eyes" and here are a few interesting facts about this song. The producer of the song had an assistant go out and buy the cheapest (and also cheapest-sounding) drum set for this particular song. Combined with the sound of an early synthesizer (a Sequential Circuits Prophet-5), they found the sound that they were looking for and the song became a huge worldwide hit.

After "Bette Davis Eyes" became a hit single, Bette Davis herself wrote letters to Kim Carnes and the songwriters to say that she was a fan of the song and wanted to thank them all for making her a part of modern history. Also, Davis's granddaughter thought her grandmother was "cool" for having a hit song written about her.

"Bette Davis Eyes" became the best-selling single of the year in the US and spent 9 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100. The song also went Gold, and won the Grammy Awards for Song of the Year and Record of the Year.

As of 2017, Kim Carnes lives in Nashville, Tennessee and continues to write music.
