Catherine "Kate" Bush, is an English singer, songwriter, musician, dancer and record producer.
Kate Bush grew up in a family immersed in music, literature and art and thus learned to play violin at age 11. However, she didn't like it, and instead, began to set her poems to her own chord formulations.
Kate also started playing the piano a lot by age 12. She first came to note in 1978 when at the age of 19, Kate Bush topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks with her debut single "Wuthering Heights."
When the song topped the chart, Kate Bush became the first female to top the UK charts with a self-composed song.
Since then, she has released 25 UK Top 40 singles, including top 10 hits like: "Babooshka", "Don't Give Up" (a duet with Peter Gabriel), "The Man with the Child in His Eyes", "Running Up That Hill" and more.
Kate Bush has also been nominated for three Grammy Awards during her music career and was nominated for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
The song "Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)" by Kate Bush is about making a deal with God to swap lives with another person.
Bush said that the song is about a relationship between a man and a woman who love each other very much, and the power of the relationship is something that gets in the way, and it creates insecurities. If the man and the woman could change places, and understand what the other is feeling, it will clear and solve the problems.
Kate Bush wrote the song with the title "Deal with God," but her label made her change it, because they were afraid that radio stations wouldn't play a song with "God" in the title.
The song "Babooshka" by Kate Bush is about futile situations and how we often ruin things for ourselves.
In the song, a man is tested by his wife when she starts sending anonymous scented letters. Seeing her husband's reaction, she takes it even further by arranging a meeting with her in disguise.
Not knowing it is his own wife, the husband is reminded of his wife when she was younger and more amorous.
