Jewel (real name: Jewel Kilcher) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, actress, producer, poet and author.

Here are a few interesting facts about Jewel:

1. She started her career playing in a coffee house in San Diego, California, called Inner Change, where label execs saw her. Eventually, Jewel signed with Atlantic Records.

2. As a child, Jewel grew up so poor in Alaska that she had nowhere to live, and had to shoplift. She even nearly died of an untreated kidney infection.

3. In 2008, Jewel went from folk-pop singer to country singer, when she released her first country album, Perfectly Clear.

Jewel was nominated 4 times for the Grammy Award, but as of today did not win. Overall, as of 2015, she has sold more than 30 million albums all over the world.
