James Brown was an American singer, musician, songwriter, dancer, record producer and bandleader. He was a progenitor of funk music and a major figure of 20th-century music and dance, known as the "Godfather of Soul" and "Soul Brother No. 1". Brown has influenced the development of several music genres during his 50 years of music career.

One of Brown's most known and successful songs is "Living In America," which was written by Dan Hartman and Charles Midnight. The song was recorded by James Brown at the request of actor Silvester Stallone for his movie Rocky IV.

Brown was a legend, known as "The Godfather of Soul," but the younger audience was mostly unfamiliar with his work. Stallone could also be very convincing, and was able to put James Brown in a position that he wasn't familiar with, which was singing someone else's song in a mainstream movie.

The move paid off for Brown, as the song "Living In America" became one of Brown's biggest hits and also introduced him to a new generation of music listeners and lovers.

Overall, James Brown recorded 17 singles that topped the Billboard R&B charts, and he also holds the record for the most singles listed on the Billboard Hot 100 chart which did not reach No.1.

James Brown has received honors from many institutions and was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Brown is ranked No.7 on the list of 100 greatest artists of all time made by Rolling Stone, and the magaine has also cited Brown as the most sampled artist of all time.
