Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American hip hop group, House of Pain.

House of Pain was an American hip hop group that cosisted of Everlast, Danny Boy and DJ Lethal. They released three albums in the 1990s, but then lead rapper Everlast decided to leave the group in order to pursue his solo career. The name of the group is a reference to a H.G. Wells novel, The Island of Dr. Moreau.

House of Pain is best known for their hit single "Jump Around" from 1992, which reached the No. 3 spot in the US, No. 6 spot in Ireland and No. 8 spot in the UK.

The squeal that keeps up the energy of the song is either a saxophone sample from "Shoot Your Shot" by JR. Walker and the All Stars, or Prince's scream from his 1991 song "Gett Off."

Everlast wrote the song with DJ Muggs (Lawrence Muggerud) of Cypress Hill, who also produced the song. Most of it is made up of samples, but it sounds like live instruments, including guitars, were added in the studio.

Because House of Pain was comprised of two rappers and a dj, there are no credits for instruments on the album. When the band performed the song live, DJ Lethal would man the turntables while Everlast and Danny Boy did the vocals.
