Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about American punk rock band, Green Day.

Green Day is an American punk rock band that was formed in East Bay, California in 1986 by Billie Joe Armstrong (lead vocals, guitar) and Mike Dirnt (bass).

After Green Day's first two independent releases, the band developed a fervent fanbase, which prompted a bidding war among record labels that were eager to sign them. Green Day then milked this attention for all it was worth, allowing labels to pay for dinners, alcohol and trips, even though they had no interest in most of them.

Green Day have won four Grammy Awards and are ranked on the 91st spot on VH1's list of "100 Greatest Artists of All Time". In 2015, They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their first year of eligibility.

The song "Basket Case" by Green Day is about anxiety attacks and a feeling you are going crazy.

Lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong suffered from various panic disorders while he was growing up. He would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with a panic attack and walk around his neighborhood in order to settle down.

The song "Basket Case" was actually a cathartic and personal song for Armstrong. He said that the only way he knew how to deal with it, was to write a song about it.
