Funkadelic is an American band that was most prominent during the 1970s. The band and its sister act Parliament, which were both led by George Clinton, pioneered the funk music culture of that decade.

An interesting fact about Funkadelic revolves around one of their songs, "Free Your Mind And Your Ass Will Follow." The song is about looking inside yourself for Enlightenment.

George Clinton once said that he was actually tripping on acid when he came up with the famous title phrase.

The order of things would go that Clinton would say different things, Ernie Harris would write them down and Clinton then would put them in the next song.

In 1992, American R&B/Pop vocal group, En Vogue, had a hit song with "Free Your Mind," which used the hook, "Free your mind and the rest will follow."

Their song however, was written after riots in Los Angeles in 1992 when white officers beat up the black motorist Rodney King. En Vogue's song does not deal with Enlightenment, but deals with racism.
