Eagles are an American rock band that was formed in 1971 in Los Angeles, with founding members Glenn Frey (vocals, guitar), Bernie Leadon (vocals, guitar) Don Henley (vocals, drums) and Randy Meisner (vocals, bass guitar).

Eagles were one of the most successful groups of the 70s, winning 6 Grammy Awards, 5 American Music Awards, topping the album chart 6 times and having scored 5 No.1 singles.

Eagles are one of the best-selling bands in history, selling over 150 million records worldwide, 100 million in the U.S. alone. Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975) album sold 42 million copies which was also the best selling albums of the 20th century in the U.S. and their album Hotel California sold 32 million copies. With all these numbers, Eagles are the fifth-highest-selling music act and the also the highest-selling American band in the history of USA.

Now that you know a thing or two about Eagles, ever wondered how they decided about their band's name? Bernie Leadon suggested the name "Eagels" after he read about the Hopis Indian tribe's reverence for the eagle.

The story goes that Leadon was with the band and high on taquila and peyote in the Mojave desert at the time. Well, that's the 70s alright...

In 1998, Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and today they are still touring and performing, so if you're a fan, go on and compare ticket prices in order to book your tickets to their next shows.

The song "Hotel California" by Eagles was written by Glenn Frey, Don Henley and Don Felder, and it is about materialism and excess. California is used as the setting, but it could relate to anywhere in America.

The song "Hotel California" was recorded at three different sessions before the Eagles got the version they wanted. The biggest problem was finding the right key for Henley's vocal.

Joe Walsh and Don Felder played together on the guitar solos, creating the textured sound.
