Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about Canadian singer, Corey Hart.
Corey Hart is a Canadian singer that is best known for his hit singles "Never Surrender" and "Sunglasses at Night".
The song "Sunglasses at Night" was one of the most memorable hits of the '80s. At the time, Corey Hart was 19 years old, just a kid from Montreal and he was recording in a studio near Manchester, England.
When he was approaching his 20th birthday, he finally held in his hands a cassette with 11 finished songs for his debut album, but "Sunglasses at Night" was not one of them just yet and it hasn't even been written yet.
When the song was finally released, in November 1983, Corey Hart got to hear only 30 seconds of it on CHOM-FM in Montreal, before he blew out his car speakers because he had cranked the volume up to overload!
While the song "Sunglasses at Night" is Hart's best known song in the US, his biggest chart hit is the song "Never Surrender."
In 1984, Hart had been nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Artist. He was inducted to both Canada's Music Hall of Fame and Canada's Walk of Fame, and is also a multiple Juno award nominee and winner, including the Diamond Award for his best-selling album Boy in the Box.
Hart has also been honoured by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) and the Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN).
Over the course of more than 35 years in the music industry, Corey Hart sold more than 16 million records all over the world and scored 9 US Billboard Top 40 hits. In Canada, he has scored 30 Top 40 hits, including 11 in the Top 10.
