Celine Dion (real name: Céline Marie Claudette Dion) is a Canadian singer. She was born into a large family from Charlemagne, Quebec, and emerged as a teen star in Canada during the 1980s with albums in the French language.

Here are a few interesting facts about Celine Dion:

1. She met her future husband when she was only 12 years old while he was 38 years old. Rene Angelil was at that time her manager. He even mortgaged his own home in order to finance Dion's first album and in 1994, the two were wed.

2. She was the youngest of the 14 children to Therese, a homemaker, and Adhemar Dion, a butcher.

3. She was raised in a poverty-stricken, but, by her own account, happy home, at one point even sleeping in a drawer.

Celine Dion first gained international recognition when she won the 1982 Yamaha World Popular Song Festival and the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, representing Switzerland. After Dion learned to speak English, she signed on to Epic Records in the United States.

During the 1990s, Dion achieved international fame and success after her albums Falling into You from 1996 and Let's Talk About Love from 1997 were best-sellers, both certified diamond in the US. She also achieved No.1 international hits, with the songs: "The Power of Love", "Because You Loved Me", "I'm Your Angel", "Think Twice", "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" and "My Heart Will Go On."

Celine Dion has won 5 Grammy Awards, with Billboard naming her the "Queen of Adult Contemporary" for having the most No.1 on the radio format for a female artist.

Dion is also the second best-selling female artist in the US during the Nielsen SoundScan era. In 2003, she was honoured by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) for selling more than 50 million albums in Europe.

She remains the best-selling Canadian artist and one of the best-selling artists of all time with record sales of more than 200 million copies all over the world.
