Bloc Party are an English rock band that was formed in 1999 in London and is composed of Kele Okereke (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards, sampler), Justin Harris (bass guitar, keyboards, saxophones, backing vocals), Russell Lissack (lead guitar, keyboards) and Louise Bartle (drums, percussion). Although Bloc Party's music is rooted in rock, the band also retains elements of other genres like electronica and house music.

Here are a few interesting facts about Bloc Party:

1. Lead singer and songwriter, Kele Okereke, enjoys reading superhero comics.

2. In 2010, Kele Okereke decided to come out as gay, as he didn't want his aging parents to pass without understanding a major part of his life.

3. The name of the band (Bloc Party) is a play on "Block Party" which is a term for an informal neighbourhood festival, which might hire a local band as entertainment.

4. Bloc Party got their big break when Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq played their single 'She's Hearing Voices' on his Radio 1 show.

In February 2005, Bloc Party released Silent Alarm, their debut album which was a huge success and was named Indie Album of the Year at the 2006 PLUG Awards and also NME Album of the year. Later that year, the album was also certified platinum in Britain, and from there on the band continued to release more albums which also found great success.

To this day, Bloc Party have sold more than 3 million albums all over the world.
