Antimatter is an English dark rock band that was formed in 1997 by Mick Moss and Duncan Patterson.

The beginning of Antimatter has an interesting story to it, and it goes like this: Without hearing each other's latest recordings, in 1998, Mick Moss and Duncan Patterson had both reached the same place musically, but also philosophically.

Duncan Patterson had just finished recording Anathemas 'Alternative 4' album, and Mick Moss had been working on a set of demos, and the similarities were just striking. Both sets of recordings were dark, melodic and minimal, with lyrics dealing with a discomfort with oneself and others.

Duncan Patterson suggested that the two record together after hearing the demos of Moss. Their first demo was originally rejected, as being too melodic. Patterson then decided to record another demo and mail a cassette of the demo to Cryptal Darkness, who agreed to release the duo's first album.

The two released 3 albums together (SaviourLights Out, Planetary Confinement), but shortly after they completed the album Planetary Confinement, Patterson left the project in order to start another band called Íon. Mick Moss continued the project on his own, continuing to record and release new material.
