Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English rock band, YES.
Enjoy!
YES are an English rock band that was formed in London in 1968 by Jon Anderson (vocals), Chris Squire (bass guitar), Peter Banks (guitar), Tony Kaye (keyboards), and Bill Bruford (drums).
YES have undergone numerous formations throughout their music career and history, with no less than 19 musicians have been full-time members with the band.
An interesting fact about YES concerns one of their most famous songs, "Owner of a Lonely Heart." This great song actually describes the paradox of loneliness. According to the band and the song, once you've been hurt, loneliness is better than a broken heart.
The driving force at YES' label (Atlantic Records) was Ahmet Ertegun, as he insisted that "Owner of a Lonely Heart" be a hit. Ertegun have guided the music careers of Led Zeppelin, Aretha Franklin and many other major and huge acts.
Yes are considered to be one of the most successful and influential progressive rock bands. They have sold 13.5 million RIAA-certified albums in the US, and in 1985, won a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance with "Cinema". Between the years 1985-1992, YES were nominated five times for a Grammy Award.
In April 2017, the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
