1956: Elvis Presley recorded the song 'Hound Dog' at RCA Studios, New York. Only after 31 takes, the decision was it was good and that was the version that was released. It was the first time The Jordanaires worked with Elvis Presley. The single sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and became Presley's best-selling song. It topped the pop chart for 11 weeks, a record that stood for 36 years.
1966: Frank Sinatra topped the US singles chart with the song 'Strangers In The Night'. The song features in the movie 'A Man Could Get Killed'.
1969: Paul McCartney recorded ‘Her Majesty’ when The Beatles were working on songs for the Abbey Road album. George, Paul and Ringo record 15 takes of ‘Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight’, while John Lennon wasn't present during the recordings. Lennon was in hospital in Golspie, Scotland, due to a car accident the day before.

1979: Sony introduced the Walkman, the first portable audio cassette player. For the next 30 years, Sony sold more than 385 million Walkmans in cassette, CD, mini-disc and digital file versions. They dominated the market, up until the Apple arrived with its iPod and other new digital devices.
1983: Rod Stewart started a three week run at the top of the UK singles chart with the song 'Baby Jane'. It was Stewart's sixth UK No.1 hit.

1988: Tracy Chapman started a three-week run at the top of the UK album chart with her self-titled debut LP.
1991: Axl Rose caused a riot that started out during a Guns N' Roses show. Axl decided to leap into the crowd in order to remove a camera from a fan at the Riverpoint Amphitheatre, Maryland Heights. More than 50 people were injured in this riot and also 15 fans were arrested.
