Music facts, music trivia, interesting stories and much more. Introducing the "Did You Know" page about English electronic dance music group, The Prodigy.

Enjoy!

The Prodigy are an English electronic dance music group from that was formed in 1990 in Braintree, Essex. The current line-up of the band consists of Liam Howlett, Keith Flint and Maxim. Past members also included Leeroy Thornhill and Sharky.

Along with acts like Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers and others, The Prodigy have been credited as pioneers of the big beat genre, which gained mainstream popularity during the 1990s.

And now for the interesting fact of the day: The Prodigy is not officially a band! Officially, The Prodigy is only Liam Howlett. How is that possible you ask?

According to various sources, Liam was the only one from The Prodigy signed to XL Recordings as the band started. Without Liam, basically nothing would exist of the music as he plays all the instruments on synths.

On the other hand, without the other band members, there could never be such a great band as The Prodigy, as everyone does his part in the band to perfection.

The Prodigy have sold approximately 30 million records all over the world, and also won numerous music awards during their music career. The band won 5 MTV Europe Music Awards, 2 Brit Awards for Best British Dance Act, 3 MTV Video Music Awards, 2 Kerrang! Awards and had 2 Grammy Award nominations.

The song "Their Law" by The Prodigy is largely a response to Great Britain's criminal justice and public order act 1994, which criminalized raves and parts of rave culture as well as the unofficial clampdown on legal raves.

This resulted in the corruption of the rave scene in the UK.

The song "Their Law" is a collaboration with Pop Will Eat Itself, and the song contains a sample from "Drop That Bassline" by Techno Grooves.
