The Animals are an English rhythm and blues and rock band that was formed in the early 1960s in Newcastle upon. The Animals decided to move to London when they found fame in 1964.

They were known for their bluesy, gritty sound and the deep voice of lead singer, Eric Burdon, as exemplified by their signature and most known song that topped both the US and UK charts, "House of the Rising Sun".

Historians haven't been able to identify the house of the rising sun, but there are two popular theories about the song. One, is that the house of the rising sun is about a brothel in New Orleans. Two, is that the house of the rising sun is actually about a women's prison in New Orleans that is called The Orleans Parish Women's Prison.

The Animals had 10 songs in the Top 20 in both the UK Singles Chart and the US Billboard Hot 100. In 1994, The Animals were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
