Survivor is an American rock band that was formed in 1978 in Chicago by Jim Peterik (guitar, songwriting). They achieved their greatest success in the 1980s, as the band produced many singles that made it to charts, especially in the U.S.

The best known single by Survivor is "Eye of the Tiger" which was also the theme song for the Rock III movie. the single earned a double platinum-certified and topped the U.S. chart for 6 weeks.

Other known singles by Survivor include: "Burning Heart" which reached the No.2 spot on the U.S. chart, "The Search Is Over" which reached the No.4 spot, "High on You" which reached the No.8 spot and more.

Survivor is one of the few bands to rack up hits with 2 different lead singers. The band's early hits, including the single "Eye of the Tiger", were sung by Dave Bickler who was the original lead singer of the band. But, when Bickler had to undergo throat surgery in 1983, he was unable to sing, so the band decided to fill his spot with Jimi Jamison, who sang on the band's later hits, including "The search Is Over" and "High on You."

Unfortunately, Jamison died of what was believed to be a heart attack in his home in Memphis, Tennessee on September 1, 2014. He was 63 years old.
