Daft Punk are a French electronic music duo that was formed in 1993 in Paris and consists of Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter.

Daft Punk gained significant popularity during the late 1990s as part of the French house movement and succeeded a lot in the following years, combining in their music elements of funk, house music, discotechnosynthpop and rock influences.

The met for the first time when they both attended school in Paris, France, in 1987. They are also known for their visual stylization and disguises that comes with their music and so are very reluctant to appear in public and only rarely show their faces, when they are mostly wearing futuristic robot-like helmets during interviews and performances.

The duo have been working under the Daft Punk moniker since the year 1993 and took the name from a review by Melody Maker, that described the song "Cindy, So Loud" as "Daft punky thrash."

Daft Punk have won 6 Grammy Awards out of 12 nominations and aside from their own studio albums, have also composed the score for the 2010 movie, Tron: Legacy, and released its soundtrack album that same year.

In 2016, they achieved their first No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song "Starboy", and as of 2007, they had sold more than 7 million albums all over the world.
