Blue Öyster Cult is an American hard rock band that was formed in 1967 in Long Island, New York.

The most commercially successful lineup of the band included Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser (lead guitar, vocals), Allen Lanier (keyboards, rhythm guitar, backing vocals), Eric Bloom (lead vocals, "stun guitar"), Joe Bouchard (bass, backing vocals) and Albert Bouchard (drums, percussion, backing vocals).

Blue Öyster Cult's lineup today, includes Roeser and Bloom,vDanny Miranda (bass, backing vocals), Richie Castellano (keyboard, rhythm guitar, backing vocals) and Jules Radino (drums, percussion).

They have sold more than 24 million records all over the world, including 7 million records in the US alone, and some of their successful hits include the songs "Shooting Shark", "Godzilla", "Burnin' for You" and "(Don't Fear) The Reaper".

Our interesting fact of the day is about one of their biggest hits, the song "(Don't Fear) The Reaper". It was rumored that the song was about suicide, but as a matter of fact, it actually deals with the inevitability of death, and the belief that we shouldn't fear it.

When Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser wrote "(Don't Fear) The Reaper", he was thinking about what would happen if he died at a young age, and if he would be reunited with loved ones in the afterlife.
