Anita Baker is an American singer and songwriter. She Started her career in the late 1970s with the funk band Chapter 8, and released her first solo album, The Songstress, in 1983. Baker rose to stardom in 1986 following the release of her platinum-selling second album, Rapture, and album that included the single "Sweet Love," which also won the Grammy Award.

Another famous song by Baker is "Giving You The Best That I Got" which is about unconditional devotion to your partner and mate, but according to the song's co-writer Randy Holland, it didn't start out that way.

Holland said that he wrote the song "Giving You The Best That I Got" after moving from Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Los Angeles, in order to pursue a career in music. He was "giving it the best that he got," but things weren't working out for him in the city. Holland later changed the song to be about his wife, Jennifer, and the special bond that the two share.

Baker She is regarded as one of the most popular singers of soulful romantic ballads during the height of the quiet storm period of contemporary R&B in the 1980s.

As of 2017, Anitak Baker has won no less than 8 Grammy Awards and has 5 platinum albums and 1 gold album.
