Alannah Myles is a Canadian singer and songwriter who is best known for her hit song "Black Velvet."

The song "Black Velvet" is actually about Elvis Presley and the story of this great song goes like this: Musician Christopher Ward got the idea for this song when he was a VJ for the Canadian music channel Muchmusic.

Ward was sent to Memphis in order to cover the 10th anniversary of Presley's death and that exposed him to many fervent Elvis fans. Inspired by their passion for Elvis Presley, Ward took notes while he was working on the special, writing lyrics based on what Elvis meant to his fans and what it must have been like for Elvis himself.

In 1997, Alannah Myles was inducted into the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Hall of Fame.
