1963: Cliff Richard and The Shadows topped the UK singles chart with 'Summer Holiday.' The song also featured in the film of the same name and became Richards' seventh UK No.1 single.

1964: For the first time in British recording history, all the singles in the Top Ten chart in the UK were by British musicians. 'Anyone Who Had A Heart' by Cilla Black at No.1, 'Bits and Pieces' by The Dave Clark Five at No.2, 'Little Children' by Billy J Kramer at No.3, 'Diane' by The Bachelors at No.4, 'Not Fade Away' by The Rolling Stones at No.5, 'Just One Look' by The Hollies at No.6, 'Needles and Pins' by The Searchers at No.7, 'I Think Of You' by The Merseybeats at No.8, 'Boys Cry' by Eden Kane at No.9, and 'Let Me Go Lover' by Kathy Kirby at No.10.

 

1972: Soul singer, Linda Jones, died at the age of 26 in New York after she collapsed into a diabetic coma following a performance at Harlem's Apollo Theatre in new York. She scored the 1967 US No.21 single 'Hypnotized'.

 

1978: Blondie reached the No.2 spot on the UK chart with their version of the song 'Denis', originally by the Randy & the Rainbows. The song at the top of the chart was 'Wuthering Heights' by Kate Bush.

1982: Metallica made their live debut, as they performed at Radio City in Anaheim, California.

1983: Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Alec John Such formed the band that would be called Bon Jovi. Their fourth album, New Jersey that was released in 1988, produced five Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 singles, the most top ten hits to this day from a hard rock album.

1987: Boy George scored his first UK No.1 single as a solo artist with a song by David Gates - 'Everything I Own'. The song was originally recorded by Gates's band Bread for their 1972 album Baby, I'm a Want You and also for Ken Boothe in 1974.

1999: Stereophonics topped the UK album chart with 'Performance And Cocktails', the third Welsh band only that scored a No.1 and also the first No.1 album for the V2 label, owned by Richard Branson.
