Today: March 10.

 

1958: Big Records released 'Our Song' by a teenage duo from Queens, New York, Tom and Jerry. They will later become famous in the '60s with their real names, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

 

1964: Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel recorded 'The Sound Of Silence' as an acoustic duo. Only after record company producers added electric guitar, bass and drums, the song became a hit in 1965. The interesting thing, is that these changes to the song were made without the knowledge of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel.

1979: Gloria Gaynor started a three week run at the top of the US singles chart with 'I Will Survive', which also reached the No.1 spot in the UK charts. The song was originally released as the B-side to the song 'Substitute' which was recorded by The Righteous Brothers.

1988: Andy Gibb, the younger brother of The Bee Gees, died in hospital. His died from myocarditis (inflammation of the heart) and had a long battle with cocaine addiction. This addiction which had weakened his heart which was the major cause to his death.

 

1996: Alanis Morissette won Best Album for Jagged Little Pill, Best Female singer, Best Rock Album, Best songwriter and best single at the 25th Juno Awards that took place in Hamilton, Canada.

2009: Tickets for a one-off concert by Sir Paul McCartney in Las Vegas sold out in seven seconds after going on sale! McCartney was booked to perform at the opening of the New Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on 19 April 2009 in-front of 4,000 fans. Ticket prices were $750 each.
