Today: June 28.

 

1959: Bobby Darin topped the UK singles chart with the song 'Dream Lover'. It was Darin's first UK No.1 hit which features Neil Sedaka on piano. The song also reached the No.2 spot in the US.

 

1968: While they were working at Abbey Road studios, The Beatles recorded ‘Good Night’, a lullaby by John Lennon for his son Julian who was 5-year-old. Ringo Starr sang the lead vocal on the song. The song appears on The White Album.

1968: Pink Floyd released Saucerful Of Secrets in the UK, the band's second album. It is the last Pink Floyd album on which Syd Barrett appeared and the only studio album to which all five of the band members contributed. The album sleeve was designed by Hipgnosis, whic was a new company that was formed by Storm Thorgerson and Aubrey 'Po' Powell. They were paid £110 for their work.

1975: The Eagles started a five-week run at the top of the US album chart with 'One Of These Nights', the band's fourth studio album. The album became the Eagles breakthrough album and achieved three US Top 10 singles, 'Take It To The Limit', 'Lyin' Eyes' (which won a Grammy) and the title track.

1975: Wings topped the UK chart with 'Venus And Mars', the band's fourth album. It features the US No.1 hit single 'Listen What The Man Said'.

 

1985: Sister Sledge topped the UK singles chart with the song 'Frankie', their only UK No.1 hit. Nile Rodgers from Chic produced the song.

1986: Wham! topped the UK singles chart with 'The Edge Of Heaven', their fourth and final UK No.1. Also on this day, Wham! played their farewell concert at Wembley Stadium, London. There were 80,000 people in attendance.

 

1997: Radiohead topped the UK album chart with OK Computer, the band's third album. Later on, the album appeared in many critics' lists and listener polls for best album of the year. The album also won a Grammy for Best Alternative Music Performance.
