Today: June 27.

 

1964: Peter and Gordon topped the US singles chart with the song 'A World Without Love', which also topped the UK chart. Peter Asher became later on James Taylor and also Linda Ronstadt's manager.

 

1967: Mick Jagger was found guilty of illegal possession of two drugs that were found in his jacket at a party that Keith Richards arranged. He spent the night at Lewes jail, England (prison number 7856). Mick Jagger asked for books on Tibet and modern art and also two packs of Benson & Hedges cigarettes.

1970: The Jackson Five started a two week run at the top of the US singles chart with the song 'The Love You Save', their third No.1 of 1970. The song also reached the No.7 spot in the UK.

1970: The newly formed band Queen, featuring singer Freddie Mercury (maybe still known as Freddie Bulsara at the time), Brian May on guitar, Roger Taylor on drums and Mike Grose on bass, played their first show at Truro City Hall, Cornwall, England.

1981: Michael Jackson scored his first solo UK No.1 hit with the song 'One Day In Your Life', which Jackson recorded for his 1975 album, Forever, Michael.

 

1981: Motorhead scored their only UK No.1 album with 'No Sleep til Hammersmith'. It is a live album that was recorded during concerts of the band's Short, Sharp Pain In The Neck tour in 1981 at Leeds and Newcastle. The name of the tour was a reference to the injury sustained by Phil Taylor when he was dropped on his head during some after-show horseplay.

1987: Whitney Houston became the first women in the history of USA that entered the album chart at the top of the chart with 'Whitney'. She also became the first woman that topped the singles chart with four consecutive releases when 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' topped the chart.

 

2009: Black Eyed Peas topped the US album charts with ‘The E.N.D.’ the band’s fifth studio album. The lead single of the album, 'Boom Boom Pow', topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks, while the second single, 'I Gotta Feeling' replaced their 'Boom' single and spent 14 weeks at the top of the chart. This gave the band overall of 26 consecutive weeks at the top of the charts.
