1961: Patsy Cline was badly injured in a car accident. During her stay at the hospital for two months, her song "I Fall to Pieces" gave her the first Country No.1 hit and also became a huge country-pop crossover hit.

 

1974: Ray Stevens topped the UK singles chart with the song 'The Streak'. It tells about the latest British craze of streaking, which means running naked in a public place.

1980: Billy Joel started a six-week run at the top of the US album chart with 'Glass Houses', Joel's second US No.1 album. It features the song 'It's Still Rock and Roll to Me', his first song that peaked at the top the Billboard's Pop Singles chart.

1987: Madonna played the first date on her Who's That Girl World Tour at the Osaka Stadium, Osaka, Japan. This tour eventually became the highest-grossing tour ever, as it grossed more than $20 million.

1989: Pete De Freitas, drummer with Echo & The Bunnymen was killed in an accident when his motorbike collided with a car. He was 27 year old.

1995: Irish guitarist, Rory Gallagher, died due to a chest infection set in following a liver transplant. He had been a member of Taste before deciding to go solo and sold more than 30 million albums all over the world. Gallagher was also voted Melody Maker's Top Musician of the Year in 1972 and auditioned for The Rolling Stones after Mick Taylor left the band. He made his final performance on January 10, 1995 in the Netherlands.

 

1997: Puff Daddy and Faith Evans started a 11 week run at the top of the US singles chart with the song 'I'll Be Missing You'. The song is a tribute to the late Notorious B.I.G. and it also topped the UK chart.
