1953: Back then, still a truck driver, Elvis Presley made his first ever recording at the Memphis recording service. He paid $3.98 to sing two songs: 'That's When Your Heartaches Begin' and 'My Happiness'. It was meant as a gift for his mother. 37 years later it would surface as part of an RCA compilation, titled: 'Elvis - the Great Performances'.

 

1964: The Rolling Stones finally made it and appeared for the first time on the US chart when their cover to Buddy Holly's song 'Not Fade Away' peaked at No.48.

1968: The Beatles recorded 'Cary Baby Cry' and 'Helter Skelter' while working at Abbey Road studios.

 

1978: 150 students saw Def Leppard perform live for the first time, as they made their live debut at Westfield School, Sheffield, England.

1988: Ike Turner was sentenced to one year in prison for possessing and transporting cocaine. Ike, the former husband of Tina Turner was stopped by the police on August of 1987 because he was driving erratically, and they found roughly six grams of rock cocaine in his car.

 

1992: Bobby Brown married Whitney Houston at her New Jersey estate. She wore a $40,000 Marc Bouwer wedding gown. Those in attendance included Gloria Estefan, Stevie Wonder, Freddie Jackson, Natalie Cole, and Patti LaBelle. Houston filed for divorce in September of 2006.
